Meet the team

As an industry-led collaboration, we do much of our work through our members and so we have just a small core of staff. They are supported by team members from Grant Thornton (consultancy services) and Mishcon de Reya LLP (legal) who donate their time to us without charge.

Ruth Evans, Chair

Ruth is the chair of Stop Scams UK. She has a forty-year track record of representing the public and consumer interest across a wide range of industries and regulatory authorities. She is passionate about putting service users at the heart of service delivery and believes that bridge-building between stakeholders is the key to transforming service delivery.

She chaired the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority and the APP Steering Group that delivered a new industry code in July 2018 to reimburse victims of authorised payment scams. She was also a Non-Executive Director of the Serious Fraud Office.

Mark Tierney

Mark is the Chief Executive of Stop Scams UK. He joined as Deputy Director in September 2020 from the BBC, where he worked for 11 years in a variety of marketing roles across digital and broadcast businesses. Before that he worked at the Guardian and at Procter & Gamble, working on brand building and digital transformation. He is also a Board Trustee of Wilton’s Music Hall, a heritage building and performing arts venue in London’s East End.

Helen is a digital policy specialist with 15 years experience. She has worked on some of the largest public shifts to digital including Directgov and GDS as Head of National Transformation and on global digital campaigns for Number 10.  In 2022, Helen joined the consumer association Which? as Head of Digital and Fraud Policy where she lead a dedicated team focused on building a safe, trusted, fair online environment for UK consumers.

Tom Coombs

Tom has extensive experience in digital strategy and product leadership. He co-founded and built a B2C fintech company in the US. He has broad prior experience as a software/database engineer at Goldman Sachs and in UX research and design for companies including Xerox, HP, B&O and Nokia.

Robert Print

Rob is Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer at Stop Scams UK. Before joining in March 2022, Rob was Head of Executive Office & Governance at The Law Society, where he led strategic support for the CEO and President and oversaw the effective functioning of its corporate governance. Rob has over fifteen years’ experience delivering consulting, finance and strategy services, and has worked for the Civil Service, EY, the General Optical Council and KPMG. Rob is also a trustee and board member of Bipolar UK, a national mental health charity.
