Stop Scams UK in 2025: here’s what we’ll be doing
Stop Scams UK CEO Mark Tierney shares his thoughts with our members on the past 12 months and considers the challenges that lie ahead in 2025.
As we approach the festive season, I want to take a moment to reflect on the progress we’ve made together in 2024 and look ahead to the opportunities and challenges of 2025.
The past year has shown the remarkable successes we can achieve with our unique setup when we collaborate. We have made real progress towards our vision, where more data is shared across sectors at speed and scale. It may be shared directly or enriched or enhanced – but it will always disrupt criminals and make scammers’ business models less viable.
Together, we’ve made significant strides in protecting consumers and disrupting scams:
- Data sharing: BT are supplying SpamShield data, with agreements from Three and VMO2 on the horizon.
- FIRE: Positive engagement from banks and Meta, affirming the strength of our model and approach as highlighted by the Financial Times and setting our trajectory for 2025 and beyond.
- Policy and advocacy: Played a key role in delivering the Home Office’s data strategy and shaping the government’s international fraud summit.
- Media impact: Achieved record-breaking media coverage and contributed significantly to the BBC Scam Safe Week campaign.
- Regulatory advances: Partnered with the ICO to develop transformative guidance that reduces regulatory risks.
- 159 service: Migrated to a new platform, now supporting 20 brands with more participants in the pipeline.
- Membership growth: Welcomed six new members, bringing us to 30 — a testament to our growing influence and collaborative power.
These achievements are only possible because of your dedication, expertise, and support. Thank you for being part of this journey and for your ongoing commitment to our collective mission.
Looking ahead to 2025
As we celebrate our successes, we must also prepare for the challenges ahead. Next year, we’ll need to address several key areas to sustain our momentum:
- Sustainable delivery: The growing demand for our technology solutions is encouraging but also highlights the need to adapt our funding model to support scalable delivery.
- Measuring impact: While we’ve made progress in tracking our results, there’s more to do to ensure we capture a complete and meaningful picture of our impact.
- Collaboration: With a growing ecosystem of partners, we must clearly define our role to complement others’ work and maximise collective impact.
These challenges are also opportunities to innovate and lead in new ways. I am confident that, together, we can continue making a tangible difference in achieving our aims and stopping scams at source.
As this year comes to an end, I want to express my gratitude to each of you for your partnership and commitment to Stop Scams UK. Your contributions make our progress possible, and I look forward to working with you in 2025 to build on our successes and tackle the challenges ahead.
Wishing you a joyful and restful holiday season. Here’s to another year of impactful collaboration!
Best wishes,
Mark
