AGM 2026: Views and reflections from Mark Tierney, Chief Executive
Following the 2026 AGM, Mark Tierney, Chief Executive shares his reflections on the progress made, the power of cross-sector collaboration, and the priorities shaping the next phase of fraud prevention.
As I looked around the room at our AGM last week, the one overriding thought came to mind: look how far we have come together in such a short amount of time.
When we launched, the ambition was clear but far from simple. We set out to bring together industries that traditionally operated separately, and in some cases competitively, to tackle a shared and growing threat: fraud.
Now, thanks to the immense commitment of our 40 member firms, Stop Scams UK is delivering material, cross-sector impact at a scale that simply wouldn’t be possible without a shared appetite for innovation.
The past year has marked a pivotal shift for us. We have successfully transitioned from an organisation focused on coordination to one defined by operational delivery.
We have eight fraud prevention initiatives active across our ecosystem – including our newest proofs of concept. These initiatives ingest significant cross-sector data volumes every single week, turning raw information into intelligence that is actively preventing fraud.
The real-world outcomes from our network speak for themselves:
- Preventing losses: Early estimates suggest our joint infrastructure is already protecting consumers from millions of pounds in potential fraud losses.
- Early disruption: We are systematically strengthening the ability of banking, telecom, and technology firms to detect and disrupt scams earlier than ever before.
- Industry recognition: Blocked SIMs programme was recently awarded Best Cross-Sector Collaboration at the global GASA Scam Fighter Awards, proving that this UK model is turning heads internationally.
This level of impact is a remarkable testament to what can be achieved by a small, highly agile team working hand-in-hand with dedicated industry partners. You can read the full breakdown in our annual milestones report.
The external landscape is also shifting rapidly. The UK Government’s Fraud Strategy has put a fierce spotlight on cross-sector accountability. Meanwhile, market demand for what Stop Scams UK provides now vastly exceeds our current delivery capacity.
The opportunities for our members are massive, particularly as we look to scale our preventative infrastructure deeper into emerging areas. With data sharing agreements already in place for over half our members, we are primed to deliver the exact kind of industry-led solutions that government and regulators are calling for.
Our absolute focus for the year ahead is speed. We are moving swiftly from pilot phases to fully operational, scaled capabilities. This is the year we build on our foundations to turn the dial permanently on consumer protection.
To all of our member firms and the teams working behind the scenes: thank you.
